   This deal came from Donna's  Mar 11  chalktalk.  The postmortem rightly looked at agreements in reversing auctions and how to reach the really good club slam, but I rebid 3NT like many in the live event. Pat cleared the spade ace on opening lead, and I played a diamond "down", missguessing, and a diamond came back clearing THAT ace.  Now we have 10 tricks to take but only one looser lost, so we are "without the count", so I just claimed the ten tricks, saying "crazy playout for crazy squeeze will just waste the gallery's time."  But SO wrong!   Look what happens to east after running 5 clubs....

  East(T'was Wackojack I think) will not enjoy playing to the final club, Not only does any sluff give declarer his 11th trick,  but if he dumps either king, opp will cross to the HK play the established winner and squeeze out "SLAM".  To stop the bleeding, east must give up hearts hoping partner can still beat dummy's six, on the final trick.
   "Basic"  triple squeezes  are rare enough,  but it was only 3 days ago that "we" got a similar one in The Zoo,  that I actually did bother to play out.   That makes three in 14 years, folks.

  P.S. ...The recent one, that was played out to success can be found if you "grid" Yosimity's MYHANDS file for day 3/10, playing with silvo vs. CCR3+Kenberg  (EW 630).

As you have it ow, both N and E have the heart T.
If you change the T in N''s hand to a 9, and then change the 9 in W's hand to an 8 (or any x) then indeed after the firts three tricks ae played as described (spade lead to the A, diamonds from the board to the t and J, diamonds to the A) you indeed can bring in 12 tricks.

Not all triple squeezes lead to two trick gains but this one does.


I was going to look u the hand that I played with Pat but I couldn't find the Myhands link. I used to have it saved but I had to cet a new hard drive a while back and the myhands link seems to have bitten the dust. Could you post it? I missed several opportunities in that game that Pat and I played.

As to getting to the club slam I suppose, if N is the dealer, it can go 1C-1S-2H-3C assuming that 3C shows both the club fit and at least something extra. After that I suppose N bids 3D and S bids 4H. That might went them on their way. It's not like the hand can be claimed at trick 1 so they need to hope for a bit of good luck or at least an absence of bad luck.

Good quibble, Ken...  dummy Did have the 3rd round heart threat--  perhaps the 9, with Pat holding 8xxx oryour hand being QJ-low--I forget,   Can you see your way to defeating the "repeater"  by surrendering the heart guard rather than dumping one of your kings , at crunch-time?   you should,    but it is counterintuitive

PPS:  I do not know how to forward MYHANDS data, so please try gain to do MYHANDS grid for CCR3 WACKOJACK   or YOSiMity!  for dates including  3/12/21.   It is a textbook example,   as I guess they all MUST be!

Right, I got up thinking Oh of Course this is non-repeating. For it to be repeating we need E to have QJTx, so that W has only three cards.

What is it that can't be downloaded? Are you referring to the "amusing,yes" post. The NS hands download ok or at least when I so it they do. I didn't post the full deal.  Just why didn't I? Beats me.

Thanks for the myhands link. When I changed hard drives I stored a lot of stuff but I was careless and myhands either got put where I can't find it or just got lost. [I have since found myhands hiding in plain sight, still thanks.] But there is still something odd. When I use myhands to look at hands it does not seem to give me hands that I played with bots.


 

A friend has recently started playing and we were having a discussion about transfer auctions. I explained that usually if you have three card support you play in the suit, usually with two cards you play in Nt, but there are exceptions. By coincidence a hand came up where I opened 2NT, partner transferred to hearts then bid 3Nt, I was four triple three with four clubs, I gave it some thought and bid 4H. It scored well as I recall, but in fact there are 11 tricks played in ether hearts or NT. Well, 11 in NT might be a little risky but they are there.
