IAC Teaching Sessions / Dare lessons
« on: March 03, 2023, 08:12:51 PM »
Hi all
Several members requested to have access to Dare lessons, as they can not assist to them, mostly due to time difference.

Here I'll put links of deals played in the lesson, and original LIN file.
We are trying to record them as well, and if we succeed, the video links of IAC YouTube channel will be added in here.

HUGE THANKS TO COLIN (poco1) AND ALAN (cedar).

PS: Please do not comment or discuss particular boards in this topic, let's keep it clean for only link review.
Feel free to copy and create a new topic within IAC Café or elsewhere in the forums.

Time flies, yet another year is to be gone!!
And in the New Year, a new challenge awaits us  :) Please note that it will be held on the 2nd Sunday of the month.

Acol deservedly won last challenge, but  IAC remains on the lead, yay!!!

This month we'll hold the event on Sunday, January 8th 2023
Deadline for registration is Wed, January 4th @ 2359utc, after which we can not accept new registrations.
We'll have 2 starting times, as usual:
*  1200 UTC, 7am NY, noon London, 17:30 New Delhi, 1am Auckland
*  2000 UTC, 3pm NY, 8pm London, 01:30 New Delhi, 9am Auckland
All boards are random, but previously saved in sets of 10 hands, so that all those starting at 1200utc will play the same boards, and all those starting at 2000 utc will also play the same boards, but different from those at noon.
Each match is of 20 boards, played in two stanzas of 10, changing opponents at half-time. Scoring is by IMPs, without barometer.

How to register:
Please form your teams and choose a captain, who should mail IAC.at.BBO@gmail.com (and please CC me: sanja@sapo.pt), stating your team name, BBO usernames of the pairs in the team, and which session you prefer (earlier or later, either or both). If you want, you can play in both sessions, assuming we have enough opposing ACOL teams.
Each team can have more than 2 pairs, but there will be only 2 stanzas, the captains should inform us which pair plays in which session.
Important: Captains, please get basic CC from each pair, and or include system notes when registering the team. They can be as short as "2/1 udca" or "modified precision with journalist leads", the rest will be explained at the tables.

You can also register here in forums, just make a post as a reply to this topic, but please do not edit old posts, or we might miss any new information. There is limited number of teams we can accept, and first registered is first served, so make sure you reserve your place. Even if you do not have full team, register and let us know later players' usernames. Furthermore, if you are just a pair, please post here on forums and match up with another pair to form the team. Or as a single player, just say you'd like to play, and in which session, we'll try to pair you up with another single member : )

Sleight of Hand / How would you bid this playing 2/1
« on: April 17, 2022, 02:26:04 PM »
Hi all
Alan (Cedar) mailed me this question...

(...) assume NS play 2/1.
North:
x x
A K Q x
A K J x x x
x
South, opener:
A Q J x x
x
x x
K Q J x x

and their bidding sequence (South bidding first) was
1S     2D
3C     3H
4C     5S
Pass

Questions:
1) Is south strong enough to bid 3C, does that bid shows extra values in opener's hand?
2) Should North bid 3D after 3C, allowing room for a 3H bid from South?
3) In the actual auction, could South bid 3N over the 3H bid, rather than go past 3N?
4) What do you think about 1S-2D ; 3C-3N?

I'll share link of this post with Alan, and I am sure here'll get very interesting answers.
Thanks!!  :)

The IAC Café / IAC vs ACOL - New Match Sunday April 3rd
« on: March 06, 2022, 09:15:13 PM »
Hi all : )
Since the match that took place in February was such a success, being enjoyed by all who took part, we are hoping that this can now be made a regular event.  The aim is to hold such a match every month, as long as the support is there from the players. We are going to provide two starting times, to allow those that could not otherwise take part to do so.

The next match is scheduled to take part on Sunday 3rd April, 2022. Please note that clock will change meanwhile.
This time we'll have 2 starting times hours:
*  1100utc, 7am NY, noon London, 16:30 New Delhi, 11pm Auckland
*  1900 utc, 3pm NY, 8pm London, 7am Auckland
All those starting at 1100utc will play the same boards, and all those starting at 1900 utc will also play the same boards, but different from those at noon.
Each match is of 16 boards, played in two stanzas of 8, changing opponents at half-time. Scoring is by IMPs.

Each team can have more than 2 pairs, but there will be only 2 stanzas, so you'll have to select which pair plays*.
Deadline for registration is March 29th @ 2359 utc.

If you are just a pair, please post here on forums and match up with another pair to form the team. Or as a single player, just say you'd like to play, and in which session, and pair up with another member : )

I am sure IAC'll do better this time : ) And even more sure, all will enjoy the games, so do not miss!

PS: Although we got nothing but great feed back about matches, with just a few minor complaints about specific situations; not all were too happy with the review that followed. We are still discussing how to modify it and make it easier to follow and learn.

* Sorry Blu, I can not make it 3 stanzas, too many problems can occur; while we want all matches to start as parallel as possible.

It is paid event, but not too expensive I hope. It would be so great if IAC would be represented by 2/1 team, OCP team, etc.. And great celebration if they do good and reach some of top places!

Please think about it and form teams if you find the challenge interesting!

Best of luck for brave ones!

BBO Matters / BBO versions

Oh well, what we all knew it was going to happen, it just did.
We need put V1 to RIP, Flash will be taken away soon (not by BBO, but by each and every browser).

Transition will not be easy for players used to old versions, but in a way it helps going cold turkey, as without being able to compare that this was better here and nicely done there, we are stuck with V3 and mobile devices apps and with time we'll just get used to them.

Keep open mind, try adjust and do not smash screen or poor mouse, let alone cat when V3 drives you nuts. It can only get better and it will  :)
