Just open 1N in the first place.

Thanks, Todd.  Yes, the key is to game force immediately, not respond 1spade with 4 of them.  There is still some deep thought and interesting choices needed for the continuations, but that immediate 2C is the critical issue.

Todd,
Thanks for this and the attached Baze primer. Some questions:

Who was Baze?  Or is it an acronym?

The primer shows 1N - 2C - 2H - 3S as a heart fit with a void or stiff in a suit to be named later
If the jump to 3S is Baze, what is a non-jump in the other major (1N-2C-2H-2S))?

Thanks.

700. I'm cool with that.
I don't bother with BWS, I just bid what I would actually bid.
The only answer I would change is F.  I said 4S. 3nt is the better bid there.
However 3S came in second place and I think that bid is chickensh#t.  4S came in 3rd and got 70 pts, but should be the 90 pointer.

I scored only 600
A double  80 (why not tell pard we have exactly four spades and opening pt count? 2S was my 2nd choice but panel's first
B 4D       30 (why not look for "serious" slam? we have a double fit and can always stop of at 5 if needed)
C 2D       60   (yes I reverse, KnR agrees w/17.65 pts..also 2D shows my correct hand pattern)
D 2C      100
E  1S       90  I'm with Curls.  If 1NT pard will never ever believe I have five spades
F  Pass    80  If pard has the cojones to X their 4H we ought to set this at matchpoints for a + score
G (b3)    70
H  H6      90
