Hello members! Please welcome new IAC teacher that joins us from ACOL club where he successfully runs mentoring sessions, Alan Jones, bbo name CEDAR.
This coming Thursday, May 21st, Cedar will start (long) series of lessons on Squeezes, he has prepared many many examples! The first lesson, which is really important not to miss, covers the terminology that we need, the principles behind squeeze play and (especially) the five-point plan that we will be following to establish whether a squeeze exists on any given hand, and if so how to implement it.
Lesson will use bbo_voice, so please come in V3 bbo version and click on casual to be able reach iac room and hear the teacher. Hope see many of you on Thursday, May 21st at 1400 utc, 10am New York, 3pm London. :)
Please see later posts for lessons, I'll add file with examples after each session.

Please see the bottom of my first message, and click on the name of the file:

The links to the articles are visible but there is NO ability to click on them and start a download. Life shouldn't be this hard. :)

This is a shortened response to Pat's problem.
I am using Chrome, I right click my mouse on the link, I choose "open in a new window". It comes up.
If, instead, I left click it does not open.
This might or might not work for others.
I see Pat now has the files.

Thanks Ken. I managed to download the file from your post but despite what Sanya said about it not being the difficult some of us are not new to computers and it was not possible to download the file from her post. All is good now though.:)

I enjoyed very much the first Alan lesson was ready to assist to the whole next lesson today (28May) but unfortunately after the first round, the speaker's voice (as well as any voice) went off, so unfortunately I had to leave the lesson, because without voice these lessons are not so great.
I am using the updated version of BBO and clicked properly on the yellow "Voice" rectangle, so please try to do something about this issue or let us know if there is something else to do from our side…
Thank you.

Log off and Log in again.

Another very good bunch of hands. I apologize for not being able to unmute when I was declarer and then I got a bit flustered. I got a grip and played it out and later found the unmute. Next time I will be sure I have it before I volunteer.

Sadly BBO crashed on June 10 and all teach hands 10-12 June are gone, if they repost them, I'll put links here.
PS: ZOOM voice works much better than bbo voice, please have it installed and running, so we dont waste too much time explaining how and what, thanks :)

A HUGE thanks for having recorded the lesson!

Hi all. Looking at the hands, I believe there is a defensive point for Example 19 (aka Getting Harder).
The contract is 5 !D by S after E opened 1 !S. The defense begins with a !S to the 9, the !S A, then the !S J on which declarer pitches a !D and W ruffs.
The original NS hands:
!S Q732
!H K8
!D J52
!C K873
!S 84
!H AQJT72
!D A8
!C AT5
After 3 tricks we have
!S Q
!H K8
!D J52
!C K873
!S Q
!H AQJT72
!D A
!C AT5
W is on lead, we are told that he leads a !D in response to !E's signal (E played the !S A instead of the K and then led the !J instead f a low !S.
Luckily, E has four !C and of course the !S Q and so can now be squeezed in the blacks.
But suppose, at T4, W leads a !C. Declarer has lost 3 tricks so he must win that one. But where? If he wins with the K on the board there goes his entry to the !s threat. If he wins in hand that will not work either. He cannot have both the !c and the !S threats on the board when Rho is the victim, so the !c threat must be the !C T. But if, at T4, he wins the !C in hand now he has lost the !C entry. Now neither threat, the !S Q or the !V T, is accompanied by an entry. This should kill the squeeze.
Could E foresee this? Maybe. He could expect the !C A and !D A to be with declarer for his strong bidding (first X and then 2 !H) and then he could realize that, if declarer holds three !C then he, E, will be subject to a squeeze, and the best defense is to kill an entry. He can encourage a !C play at T4 by winning the 9 at T1, playing the k at T2, and then the T at T3. W can observe that at each instance, E played the lowest possible card and might then shift to a !C.
Maybe a bit theoretical. But hey, squeezes are a bit theoretical. And fun to imagine. Anyway, I don't think this hand can be made if W plays a !C at T4. On the run of the trump E can comfortably toss his !D K after W signals strength. After all !H are cashed we have
!S Q
!H
!D
!C K8
!S
!H
!D A
!C T5
E holds !S A and !C Qx. S now plays the !D K must pitch from dummy. If he throws the !S Q E throws his A. If, instead, declarer pitches the !C 8 then E throws a !C. The !C T is now good in declarer's hand but there is no entry.
The ins and outs of this hand are challenging.
