Wow.  There WERE panel comments disliking the 2 !C  opening on AKQxxx, ---, K, AKJTxx!.  I wonder if that means there will be almost zero votes for 2 !C   in the next month's companion deal --April problem F.

PROBLEM E:>>  Leaving in  1NT  can't be hideous,  but 2 !C , 2, !D or 2 !S  should be fine too.  The trouble is  when I hear 2 diamonds, after my retreat to 2 clubs, I am gonna raise it.  That could get embarrassing.  But I have learned that the 6-9 point-range for pard's 1NT rebid turns out to be 10 points really often.
                   ---Two Clubs---

PROBLEM F:>>  Last month's companion board ( Problem E)  was  AKQxxx, ---, K, AKJTxx.   There probably won't be serious objection from the panel  with the assigned 2 !C   opening with this 21-count,  but there will be with the o-so-similar 16-count here.

Having trouble diving into this batch of problems; how about you folks?          But that's changing.

Problem A  marks the return of the 100-deal SIMULATION :D
The first thing that stood out was that having silent opps when we have these two hands is suprisingly rare!  west, and even east keep turning up with hands rating  a michael's, Jump-overcall or even a double.  The fact that they are silent  improves our chances of not get murdered if staying in notrump.  (Simulation deals with opponent passing when it is not realistic for them to do so are discarded)
The second thing is that PASSING 2NT  is totally off the page. None of my acceptable examples scored exactly 120, without retreating to diamonds scoring 130(150), nor was surrendering a minus 50 less bad  than what would happen if we correct to 3!D
So,  the two horse race was a battle between correcting to diamonds and RAISING notrump!  So far this is a tight battle.  The panel  will go for the game bonus, counting on 3NT being cold  or sneaking home by a less than double-dummy  opening lead
                 ---for Feb 9th,  I am RAISING ---

PROBLEM B:>>  The hint sent me running to the OKB system notes!   IT made me think that both cuebids show "strong diamond raises", which is odd.
But no.  Turns out that 2 !C  has two legs.  It can be the usual invite+ in diamonds, but also a really strong hand  (in context)  coming in a different suit.   With that possibility in mind,  I see no haarm in bidding my club suit, in case partner has a 1H opener which will be lovely,  or even a club-heart two-suiter--even lovelier.  I really expect we are headed for 4 or 5 hearts or 5 clubs.
            ---Three Clubs---

PROBLEM C:>>  They're having a little joke here-- this is last month's  problem D with the heart noise coming from righty instead of lefty!  March problem D had a stunning 25 votes to  become declarer.  Will a majority be sucked in by the heart  AQ even though  "right-siding" is not an issue anymore?
It depends on whether or not after doubling, we are willing to lie down for partner's runout to 2 of either minor.   It is IMPS,  so I am OK with being dummy  to 2 clubs or playing 2  diamonds......
            ---Double---

PROBLEM D:>>  This bucket of loosers  is what Michaels' cue was meant for, IMO.  Hoping to bid 2 suits one at a time is a poster child for  "making the last mistake".  MAKE them catch you after a SINGLE intervention if they can.  Remind your partner that the bid that means "show my your minor"  is TWO NOTRUMP,  not three clubs; Then it's possible  to come to a safe port,  should he mave 6+ clubs without any red support

Nice predicting  on prob.D, Todd!   KQTx,AQ, xxx, AKxx      1c, (1h), p, [p] " ONE NOTRUMP--unanimous by the panel"      25 out of 28 qualifies

PROBLEM A: Pass                    Why are they making, when partner says he has....Kxx, KQx, x, AQ?xxx  ??
PROBLEM B: 3 Diamonds      As a "5th-seat overcall",  this is no way in the minimal range
PROBLEM C: 3 Clubs               Long, long auction  just beginning?
ROBLEM D: 1 Notrump
PROBLEM E: 5 Clubs
PROBLEM F: 4 Spades             Still hoping to be showing 3 aces+ to pard's blackwood
PROBLEM G: 3 Clubs               Wish we had discussed what new suit replies to old fashioned Drury were about
PROBLEM H: Diamond Queen    The mission here is to build four+ cashers asap, before jump-rebidder's club suit is established--not tobe passive.  I believe the popular  low spade is basically passive

PROBLEM E:
It seems partner has some values and some hearts, though not a suit good enough to respond 2 !H (maybe !H KTxxx or similar?). So WHAT IS 4 !D ? Surely it cannot be an offer of strain. Can it? We have shown a two-suited hand. To offer a new suit at the four level is nuts. So what is it?

I think it's a good club raise (flag bid). It does NOT necessarily sh ow a control (there is not enough room to pack all of that into the bid). Could it include the !D A? Yes.

Hmm;  We have bid spades once and clubs once, abeit above 3NT.  Partner has bid hearts once. I can't rule out thaat we belong in diamonds by what has been bid so far--I don't even insist that south must have ten+ black cards.. so I would treat 4 Diamonds as a bid I COULD RAISE  while realizing that 4 !D  must wear many hats.

edited to get Blu's comments separate from the quote from Todd -jcreech

problem H,  the led problem:   West's  diamond, then club, then heart bidding HAS TO promise a "Roman"--mini,  midi, but probably not  maxi nor mega.  So  "our"  heart fit might be there but will be 4-4-4-1, if it exists,  which I am doubting as mentioned above.
This makes the third mention of  the use or non-use or 3 !S   as 'Last Train to 3NT",  along with problem F and problem C  (where a bunch of us used words like  "punt" "grope"  and "waffle":

For problem B:  we bid  3 !D    with 10x,  10 8 x x, QTxx, Qxx because that is less likely to catch a RAISE, than   3 !H is.   There is some kind of chance that Mr. Spades may rebid hearts himself  whereupon we can DROP HIM :D   ( I really am not enthused with this hand, ok?).  One quoted panelist pointed out that partner might pull     3 !D  to a 6-card spade suit,  but leave us in a lousy 3 !H  situation...  All the better for 3 !D  if true.

For  problem F,  I meant "what response to the hoped-for "blackwood"  shows A+A+A+void.. in case that wasn't clear.  And YES  a little  rough & tumble in the conversation -- just like at the after-party at the pizza joint at 11PM --  is definitely welcome  here in the forum  ;D

I am leaning toward bidding the most boring, sleepwalking rebid that can occur to any of us  on ALL the bidding problems --except problem F, where i am certainly slam hunting.   This is not a good sign hence we have no  Early-Bird  guesses until late on  the eighth.

A:>> (1)  Competing to 2NT for a make THINKING THAT THE OPPS' OVERCALL IS ALSO MAKING  is not this kind of 9-count.  (2)  moving on to some 4-3 or4-2 major fit  makes me ill.  (3) raising  -- forget #3.  raising is o-u-t out.   That leaves going for the +200--and getting -180 once in a while.  final word:                                                     ---PASS---
B:>>   Right now the hint has me aboard.  Our two  non-openers have not "blossomed".  I will sign off, and the opp's are welcome to their 3H competition.  Somebody talk me out of THIS one.
                          ---2 Spades---

C:>>  This is such a beautiful problem,  it would be a shame  to start with the obvious simple raise.  Bidding "around the clock" --  3 clubs now, then a heart jump  ( or splinter to 5!D should north rebid his hearts.  Then, there is the temptation to rebid the spades first and who knows how many fun bids will we have in the later rounds.  For the real bashers,  there may be the mighty leap to 5 !D    meaning exclusion RKC but that's not gonna float in the MSC.

D:>>  The heart AQ, along with the correct point-count cannot be denied.  If I reopened with a double and heard a spade response, i swear  I would convert to notrump even then.
                          ---1 Notrump---

 E:>>
Five Clubs may help partner bid slam holding the measly black suit help we need;  Four Spades will not.
That is enough for me to stop worrying about hitting a completely worthless dummy which would means the four level  is out last chance of a plus ( two black singletons might might bring home 5 clubs after all)
                 ---Five Clubs---

F:>>  I didn't think of Jim's dog-walking idea so was content  with the cue-bid for an answer.  It would be ideal if partner was moved to Blackwood after that--very nice.  What bid shows 3 of five + a void, by the way.
                 ---Four Spades---

G:>>         __Three spades---    ( and leave him in 3NT hehehe )

PROBLEM H:>>    bidding:                pass
                                             1 !D               1 !S
                                                       pass
                                              2 !C              2 !H
                                               3 !H              3NT.... swish

Dummy can be counted on to have a 3-suter as bid.  Declarer ,however seems to have used artificial  4SF for his 2 Heart rebid.   ..Now, I have put off  for 3 weeks deciding WHICH little heart to lead, but suddenly see that hearts is not the suit to attack!   Wouldn't East, with a small singleton heart bid 3 spades to "command"  west take the notrump?  So his 3NT will deliver some heart helper.  yukk.  it comes down to a guess between the doubleton ten  and jack-third , just like last month.
This makes 3 deals in a singe month where 3 spades shouldbe treated as some sort of "last train to notrumpville".  i hope i am right all 3 times.

RE:  problem C:   I DID mention the likelihood (?)   of north  showing up with 4=4=2=3  etc.  in myy long and passionate rant.   Many others seem to have that bad-news situation in the back of their mind  :D
By the way,  the go-low  squad outnumbered the cue-invite  crowd  13 to 12  ( 10+3 low bids,  12 cue bids)  in a different month our contest scores might be flipped.  Maybe someone bribed the two doublers to testify  that they are in effect taking the high road?
