The IAC Café / IAC vs ACOL - Challenge #8 Sunday October 2nd
« on: September 08, 2022, 05:51:26 PM »
Are we ready for the next battle??  ;)
Right now IAC is in the lead, yay!!! We have won 4 against ACOL's 3 victories, and I am sure they will fight hard in the next one!

This month we'll hold the event on Sunday, October 2nd, 2022.
Deadline for registration is Wed, September 28 @ 2359utc, after which we can not accept new registrations.
We'll have 2 starting times:
*  1100utc, 7am NY, noon London, 16:30 New Delhi, 11pm Auckland
*  1900 utc, 3pm NY, 8pm London, 7am Auckland
All boards are random, but previously saved in sets of 10 hands, so that all those starting at 1100utc will play the same boards, and all those starting at 1900 utc will also play the same boards, but different from those at noon.
Each match is of 20 boards, played in two stanzas of 10, changing opponents at half-time. Scoring is by IMPs.

How to register:
Please form your teams and choose a captain, who should mail IAC.at.BBO@gmail.com (and please CC me: sanja@sapo.pt), stating your team name, BBO usernames of the pairs in the team, and which session you prefer (earlier or later, either or both). If you want, you can play in both sessions, assuming we have enough opposing ACOL teams.
Each team can have more than 2 pairs, but there will be only 2 stanzas, the captains should inform us which pair plays in which session.
Important: Captains, please get basic CC from each pair, and or include system notes when registering the team. They can be as short as "2/1 udca" or "modified precision with journalist leads", rest will be explained at the tables.

You can also register here in forums, just make a post as a reply to this topic, but please do not edit old posts or we might miss any new information. There is limited number of teams we can accept, and first registered is first served, so make sure you reserve your place. Even if you do not have full team, register and let us know later players' usernames.
Even if you are just a pair, please post here on forums and match up with another pair to form the team. Or as a single player, just say you'd like to play, and in which session, we'll try pair you up with another single member : )

Hi all
Changes are noted, Fleur's got new partner in "Across the border" team, and team "7NT" had changes.
The registrations are closed now, thanks all!
I'll soon mail all captains with names of your opponents, please share with your players.

And I'd so much appreciate if for next registrations, you always say system/carding/leads that each pair will play. It does not have to be detailed, but min info as "2/1 standard" or "modified precision, udca, codded tens"  will suffice.

Thanks again, Good Luck IAC!  :-*

RQ4mulae and BLU  will pair for the later slot;
TY ! Added  :)

some of our usual suspects  will give in and join pretty soon, unthe slaughter from last month  has discouraged them
Oh, I do NOT wanna hear that!! You guys won so many times, and beat opps so hard, that you scared THEM to participate! LOL
Come on guys, not every day is our best day, and none, even the greatest do not always win.

One of the good things about theese challenge matches from the iac pov is the exposure that iac players get to unfamiliar bidding situations.

That's so true Jack : ) And I hope everyone is having fun, regardless of the results.
Funny coincidence in 1st session, where each Club won one match with exactly + 65 imps!!

Thanks to all that participated in 6th AUGUST Challenge : ) Warm Cudos to IAC winning teams:
* Double Down & Goldie (Captain: djc11): djc11 & V2008 + Esji & Rtadep and Rebekahm & DrAculea + Annwann & Srdjandj
* Avengers (Captain: jojah45): jojah45 & thornbury + Rebekahm & rober t

Big thanks to good sportsmanship of all players from Double Down and Goldie's team that merged into one, so that everyone could play.

This lack of room is a serious problem.
(...)
Since, at least so far, I haven't a clue as to what our opponents will be playing ( 4 card majors? weak NT?, how weak?) it would be useful to have maybe five minutes or so to read their cc before the first hand appears. I don't know if that is easy to arrange.

All ACOL players play standard ACOL, except only 1 pair -- Gbs1 & Kaltstart  (5 card majors & strong NT)
In 1st stanza, 1st listed IAC pair will be NS, playing against 2nd listed ACOL pair. In second stanza you get the other pair for opponents.
You can check their play records in BBO's myhands or contact their Captain before the match and get more details.
Also, when the match starts, you are not rushed - you are allowed to spend a few minutes to state your system, hear about theirs and ask questions if you have any. But be reasonable pls - none wants full discussion how partnership deals with XYZ or modified Drury, for example.

With this number of teams, should we organize IAC teams championship?
Like round robin over few months?
Sorry for off topic :)

We used to have Team and Pair League, but tools to keep all automatic stopped working, and we simply can not find anyone to make a working tool for it.
And some years ago, we did have Team series, where week after week IAC teams would play Round Robin. Same here, the tool stopped working. Setting this up is not hard, but keeping clear scores and who opps whom next week is not as easy if done manually.

Too bad - we need someone to make a tool.
